History of Truckers Strike America

Some people recall the feeling of almost one million bikers rocking up in Washington D.C.: a sense of awe and astonishment at the sheer number of glistening, growling vehicles packing the streets of the capital city. There was also a sense of relief at the fact that the 9/11 Memorial Biker’s Ride went by without incident, in spite of the fact that the organizers never got a permit. Well, prepare for another tidal wave of vehicles, because this weekend (11th to the 13th of October), Washington D.C. is yet again set to host another massive demonstration, this time the American trucker’s strike.

The History of the Trucker’s Strike USA

The first event, the 2 Million Biker’s “Shut Down America,” which took place on September 12th, has inspired hundreds of thousands of truckers and other patriotic American citizens to hit the streets of D.C. and use their monstrous vehicles to block all paths into and out of the city. The aim of the general strike is to heighten awareness and bring government attention to the growing grievances of those who work in the trucking industry.

What’s the history of the truckers strike in America?

This soon-to-be historic event was sparked by the unconstitutional behavior, restrictive regulations and corruption of the Obama administration. Many of the laws that have been passed since President Barack Obama took the reins of the country (and many of those that are in the process of being passed) have served to put a clamp on one of the country’s most important and integral industries. From soaring gas prices and Obamacare compelling trucking companies to restrict the number of hours that employees can work in a week, to the call to install tracking devices in all vehicles, the government is steadily upsetting many hundreds of thousands, if not millions of Americans.

The American truckers strike, which could have a temporary, yet catastrophic effect on national commerce aims to give a voice to these Americans.

The organizers behind the event encourage everyone to stock up on food and other essentials, since delivery of produce will not be taking place for the duration of the strike and perhaps even longer.

Truckers to Shut Down America: Why

This weekend (Friday October 11th to Sunday the 13th), thousands, if not more, truckers and bikers are planning a general strike in Washington D.C. to bring their many grievances to the attention of the government. For three days, American truckers will “shut down America” by ceasing to haul freight across the country and prevent traffic from going into and out of D.C.

The “Truckers on Strike to Shut Down America” did have a Facebook page, but it was removed on September 23rd upon request by the Department of Justice; an act that is considered by many to be a violation of the organizers’ civil rights to Freedom of Speech. What this page illustrated before it was removed was that the proposed strike has the support of tens of thousands of truckers, bikers and other Americans, all of whom are dissatisfied to the point of being enraged by the “corruption” and “unconstitutional” behavior of the Obama administration.

The Facebook page boldly stated:

“The American people are sick and tired of the corruption that is destroying America! We therefore declare a GENERAL STRIKE on the weekend of October 11-13, 2013! Truck drivers will not haul freight! Americans can strike in solidarity with truck drivers!”

What exactly do they mean? Key issues involve the following…

Satellite Tracking for Truckers’ Vehicles

The Department of Transportation (DOT) is currently fighting to make it compulsory for every trucker to have a tracking device installed, which would record driving speed, idling time and mandatory breaks. This may not seem like much of a problem to the layperson, until you imagine the same legislation applying to your own car or motorbike. Imagine if the government knew where you were, how fast you were going and exactly what you were doing at all times of the day? Many believe that this is a privacy issue and that the DOT is essentially pushing to become the “trucking nanny.”

Enforcement of Idling Laws

It’s no secret that idling poses a terrible pollution problem and the laws that have been created are intended to prevent the unnecessary emission of greenhouse gases. However, certain allowances need to be made for American truckers who service parts of the country that are either blindingly hot or blisteringly cold. Running a truck’s engine for a few minutes prior to hitting the road allows the air conditioning or heating to take effect. By prohibiting idling, truckers who work in temperatures below zero or above 100 can actually be in danger of hypo and hyperthermia respectively.

Obamacare

The legislation that demands that employers provide health insurance for employees working over 30 hours a week is having a terrible impact upon truckers. Many companies are clamping down on the number of hours a trucker can work per week, so that they don’t have to cover the cost of full health coverage. In the trucking industry, Obamacare negatively affects both trucking companies and truckers.

Truckers Go on Strike

These few issues are simply the tip of the iceberg. Then there is the increasingly expensive cost of equipment and the soaring gas price. At the end of the day, American truckers are being hit with expense after expense and restriction after restriction that is completely at odds with just how important they are to the American infrastructure. You would think that an industry that is integral to the running of the country would have support from the government and yet little is being done to help the industry or at least protect it.

The issues being raised by the truckersstrike to shut down America are not only on the agenda of truckers; they are of national interest too since Americans having grown exceedingly tired of corrupt and abusive politicians.

Truckers on Strike in America

Few people understand just how integral truckers are to the running of American society. From the fruit and vegetables in your grocery store to the gas you put in your tank; every product on every shelf gets there via the transportation provided by truckers who cover tens of thousands of miles from one corner of the country to the next. It then comes as quite a shock and worry to learn that American truckers are uniting this very weekend for a massive protest against the “corruption that is destroying America.”

The legislation that has been implemented by the Obama administration is making it progressively more and more difficult for truckers to make a viable living from their occupation, which must be among the most difficult in the world. Spending months at a time on the road, covering immeasurable miles of distance, away from friends, family, home and comfort must be incredibly taxing and yet, truckers are faced with one government placed obstacle after the next. The soaring gas prices and the expensive maintenance of equipment are squeezing the lifeblood out of the industry and yet, it is an industry without which we simply cannot survive.

In a demonstration against many of the legislation and events that have transpired since President Barack Obama came into office and what truckers view as corruption and unconstitutional behavior, a strike has been planned for this very weekend, from the 11th to the 13th of October.

About the American Truckers Strike

The American truckers strike is to take place in the nation’s capital, Washington D.C. and looks to see tens of thousands (if not more) truckers barricading the city’s inward and outward bound roads with their immense vehicles, effectively preventing traffic into and out of the capital. The strike encourages truckers from all over the country to cut the ignition of their vehicles, preventing stores nationwide from receiving merchandise.

The truckers will remain in Washington D.C. for three days, yet the effects are sure to be felt across the country as freight stands still. The trucking industry is an essential part of our infrastructure and the truckers strike in America is sure to remind all citizens that the services provided by these laborers are not a right, but a luxury.

The History of the Trucker’s Strike in America

The historyof the trucker’s strike in America began many years ago with the various legislations passed by the Obama administration. For years now, a growing sense of unfairness has been cultivating amongst the professionals who bring products to our stores. Problems and irks such as the skyrocketing gas prices, Obamacare, Benghazi and Seal Team 6 have only made people feel increasingly as though corruption is taking a firm hold on the running of the country.

But, what sparked the trucker’s strike in America?

The History of the Trucker’s Strike, USA

A permit was issued to the planners of a "Million Muslim March," the intention of which was to demonstrate American Muslims’ condemnation of the terrible events of 9/11. This march was planned to take place on the Capital Mall in Washington D.C.

The event appealed to those who have been feeling increasingly upset with the Obama administration and what they believe to be the corruption and unconstitutional behavior that is destroying America. It turned out that many of the bikers who supported “2 Million Bikers to DC” are also truckers and the event, which did not get a permit, drew crowds of hundreds of thousands of them. The demonstration was safe and went by without incident. At the same time, less than 100 supporters showed up for the Million Muslim March.

This sparked the conception of the "Trucker's Strike" to Shut Down America, the Facebook page of which was recently shut down by the Department of Justice in a complete violation of Andrews’ Civil Right to Freedom of Speech. The trucker’s strike is set to take place this weekend, from the 11th to the 13th of October and looks like it will see support from a staggering number of people. The intention of the strike is to prevent traffic from coming into and out of Washington D.C. and in doing so, draw government attention to the dissatisfaction of a very important faction of American citizens.

How the history behind the trucker’s strike in America is to conclude remains to be seen. What’s important for all to know is that it is peaceful and is not intended to incite violence.
