Truckers on Strike in America

Few people understand just how integral truckers are to the running of American society. From the fruit and vegetables in your grocery store to the gas you put in your tank; every product on every shelf gets there via the transportation provided by truckers who cover tens of thousands of miles from one corner of the country to the next. It then comes as quite a shock and worry to learn that American truckers are uniting this very weekend for a massive protest against the “corruption that is destroying America.”

The legislation that has been implemented by the Obama administration is making it progressively more and more difficult for truckers to make a viable living from their occupation, which must be among the most difficult in the world. Spending months at a time on the road, covering immeasurable miles of distance, away from friends, family, home and comfort must be incredibly taxing and yet, truckers are faced with one government placed obstacle after the next. The soaring gas prices and the expensive maintenance of equipment are squeezing the lifeblood out of the industry and yet, it is an industry without which we simply cannot survive.

In a demonstration against many of the legislation and events that have transpired since President Barack Obama came into office and what truckers view as corruption and unconstitutional behavior, a strike has been planned for this very weekend, from the 11th to the 13th of October.

About the American Truckers Strike

The American truckers strike is to take place in the nation’s capital, Washington D.C. and looks to see tens of thousands (if not more) truckers barricading the city’s inward and outward bound roads with their immense vehicles, effectively preventing traffic into and out of the capital. The strike encourages truckers from all over the country to cut the ignition of their vehicles, preventing stores nationwide from receiving merchandise.

The truckers will remain in Washington D.C. for three days, yet the effects are sure to be felt across the country as freight stands still. The trucking industry is an essential part of our infrastructure and the truckers strike in America is sure to remind all citizens that the services provided by these laborers are not a right, but a luxury.
